Recap: Alabama Narrowly Escapes South Carolina
Alabama narrowly dodged a second upset in the SEC, defeating South Carolina.
Well folks, it was a nail-biter down in Tuscaloosa. Alabama, sittin' at number 7, dodged a bullet from the Gamecocks of South Carolina. It was one of them heart-stopping SEC battles that we Southerners can't get enough of. The Tide, now holdin' a respectable 5-1 record, barely managed to hold onto a 27-25 victory. Domani Jackson stepped up big at the final whistle, interceptin' a desperate pass from LaNorris Sellers right there at the goal line. Tide fans could finally exhale and soak in the victory. Now, over these last few weeks, Alabama's found themselves in some close shaves. First, they eked out a win against Georgia in a real barn-burner, 41-34. They wasn't so lucky against Vanderbilt, fallin' 40-35 the next week. Coach Kalen DeBoer, he’s gotten used to these white-knuckle finishes and says the boys need to tighten up a bit to avoid such drama. South Carolina fought valiantly, with Sellers connectin' on a 31-yard beauty to Nyck Harbor with mere seconds on the clock. That brought the Gamecocks within a whisker of a tie, but fate just wasn’t on their side. Jalen Milroe, the Tide's quarterback, had a tough day but came through when it mattered most, with a clutch 34-yard touchdown pass to Germie Bernard. He made some mistakes, sure, but those mistakes didn’t stop Alabama from grabbin' the W. The Gamecocks, on the other hand, put up a good fight but fell short on a big ol’ field goal attempt that would’ve changed the whole game, bless their hearts. As the dust settles, Alabama looks ahead to a tough one against Tennessee, while South Carolina heads over yonder to face Oklahoma.
