TLDR: Well folks, it’s been a tough ride for Alabama this week, losing to Oklahoma 24-3. Coach Kalen DeBoer was none too pleased with the ‘uncharacteristic’ mistakes that kept cropping up like weeds in a garden. Now, Jalen Milroe, bless his heart, threw up three interceptions, and the poor Crimson Tide got stuck in the mud with only 70 rushing yards! As for Oklahoma, they rode their horses to the tune of 257 rushing yards, them Sooners were on fire. Heading into Week 13, Bama was all set for SEC glory, but nah, this loss threw a wrench into the works and opened the door for Georgia. The chances of sliding into the playoffs are looking like a long shot unless a lot of pieces fall into place. Milroe had a slog of a game, scraped out 164 passing yards, but those pesky interceptions painted a different picture. What’s worse, they let Oklahoma jump to a 24-3 lead, something you don’t see against an unranked team too often. As DeBoer said, ‘things got away’ after halftime. They’ve got one more shot to shine in the Iron Bowl, so hope ain’t all lost yet!
Well, shoot, it wasn’t a pretty picture down in Oklahoma for our dear Alabama’s Crimson Tide. This past Saturday night, they got caught flat-footed by Oklahoma, a game ending with 24-3 on the scoreboard. Our beloved Coach Kalen DeBoer wasn’t too thrilled, voice cracklin’ with disappointment as he called out the team’s “uncharacteristic” blunders that scattered their hopes like a pile of autumn leaves. And goodness gracious, I reckon they’re about as far from the College Football Playoff as a hog is from flying.
That quarterback Jalen Milroe, bless his soul, had a real rough go of it, tossing three interceptions that seemed to fly right into the hands of those Sooners every dang time. The Tide, well, they couldn’t run from their woes, only rackin’ up a subpar 70 rushing yards – a measly count that wouldn’t fetch a wink from even the mildest defense.
Meanwhile, over on the Oklahoma side, that quarterback Jackson Arnold along with that spry freshman Xavier Robinson ran Alabama ragged to the tune of 257 rushing yards. Ah, it was a sight to see – like the Sooners had lassoed a hurricane. This win for them sealed a spot in the bowls for the 26th time runnin’, while we ‘Bama folks were left to contend with our first third loss in over a decade. Tides sure have a way of turning.
You would’ve thought Alabama was ready to roll into the SEC title game after beatin’ Oklahoma and Auburn. But when they tripped up, Georgia slid right on into that championship berth, making the playoff dream a rough track. If that Iron Bowl against Auburn don’t end up in our favor, we’ll be left to chew on the what-ifs of this season like a tough piece of jerky.
It was a night of flubs and fumbles for Jalen Milroe. He managed just 164 passing yards and a paltry 7 yards on foot. When that Oklahoma cornerback Eli Bowen intercepted his throw early on, all was not gonna be spit and polish. Subsequent interceptions, including a critical throw to Robbie Ouzts nabbed by Kip Lewis, only added misery to the woes, and the Sooners pulled way ahead with a mighty 21-point lead – the likes Alabama hasn’t seen since Bush was in office.
Then there’s Brent Venables, coach for the Sooners, chuffed up at how his team put muscle to the metal, rushing Alabama for over 200 yards in the first half alone. Our Tide had no answers once Deontae Lawson, one of the finest linebackers out there, stepped off the field limpin’. DeBoer stayed mum on an update post-game. Sure nuff, losin’ a leader like Lawson leaves a team struggle-bustin’ to keep their spirits marshaled.
All this sure throws ‘Bama’s postseason prospects into a twirl, just as the Iron Bowl is bout to come knockin’ at the door. And while the playoffs might now kiss Alabama’s chances on the cheek goodbye, young Milroe’s mind is all set on finishing right. As he put it, “It’s all about finish.” Well, I’ll say amen to that – they’re not off the stove just yet, but there’s a skillet sizzlin’ that they better jump to before it’s too late.
