TLDR: This past Saturday, folks witnessed quite the barnburner. The Tennessee Volunteers, ranked No. 11, handed the No. 7 Alabama Crimson Tide a stinging 24-17 defeat. The pivotal moment came late in the fourth quarter with a diving 16-yard touchdown snag by Chris Brazzell II from Nico Iamaleava, pushing the Volunteers ahead 21-17. Dylan Sampson of Tennessee shone bright, sprinting for 139 yards and notching two touchdowns, leaving no doubt about Tennessee’s aspirations for a College Football Playoff spot. ‘They’ve played like this all year,’ said Tennessee’s coach Josh Heupel, commending his squad’s grit. Meanwhile, Alabama’s quarterback Jalen Milroe couldn’t find much rhythm, going 25 for 45 with two interceptions. Alabama’s ground game also faltered with a meager 89 yards. Milroe himself rued the loss, saying, ‘I gotta do better.’ The game reached its climax with 2:25 left, but Alabama’s unsportsmanlike conduct penalty blunted their drive, allowing Tennessee to seal the victory with a field goal. Tennessee overcame early turnovers and a halftime deficit, eventually turning the tide with Iamaleava’s 55-yard connection to Dont’e Thornton. Next, Alabama faces Missouri, hoping to regroup, while Tennessee prepares for Kentucky.
Well, my fellow folks, what a nail-biter we had on our hands this past Saturday! No. 11 Tennessee took on the mighty No. 7 Alabama, and it was one for the books in the world of college football. By the time the final whistle blew, it was the Volunteers, not the Crimson Tide, savorin’ the sweet taste of victory cigars – 24-17 was the score, with Tennessee takin’ down Alabama.
One moment that certainly turned heads was when Chris Brazzell II made a real show-stopping catch for a 16-yard touchdown from Nico Iamaleava midway through that fourth quarter. With this, the Vols led 21-17, and the pressure fell heavy on Alabama to catch up and turn the game. This left folks talkin’, puffing on their celebratory smokes.
Now, I’ve watched this youngin’ Dylan Sampson out there hawlin the ball for Tennessee, and boy, did he shine like a star. With 139 rushing yards and two touchdowns under his belt, he’s keepin’ Tennessee very much in the hunt for a College Football Playoff slot. It’s somethin’ else from a fella who’s consistently rushin’ past defenders game after game just like he ain’t got no fear—17 touchdowns speakin’ volumes!
How about that Alabama team, though? They’ve been hittin’ some rocky terrain this season, and it’s got their fans a tad worried. Quarterback Jalen Milroe seemed to struggle a bit, closing 25. of 45 passes and tossing two interceptions. Alabama also faltered in the run department, gatherin’ a mere 89 yards compared to the Volunteers’ hefty 214. Coach Kalen DeBoer seemed to stress lookin’ inward with this defeat—a tall order for sure.
Tennessee didn’t have it all sunshine and roses either. They had three turnovers in the first half, leavin’ them trailin’ at 7-0 halftime, but got back in the saddle with a 55-yard pass from Iamaleava to Dont’e Thornton that got spirits up. Brazzell’s score just stirred up more excitement as the lads held their nerve to see it through.
With one minute left in the third quarter, Tennessee finally nudged ahead 14-10 after Sampson did his thing, barrelin’ through three yards. Then Alabama scratched their way back in early fourth with Justice Haynes’ 7-yard run. But that wasn’t enough to stop the determined Tennessee side.
Now lookin’ ahead, Alabama has quite a job ahead with Missouri and LSU on the docket. Tennessee, full of pep, will be gearin’ up to meet Kentucky. As the dust settles, Tennessee’s victory ain’t just a win—it’s a loud announcement: these Volunteers reckon they’re going somewhere this year, and no one’s standin’ in their way!
