TLDR: The Georgia Bulldogs dusted themselves off after biting the dirt for the first time in almost four years. They rallied strong against Auburn with a 31-13 victory down there in Athens. Trevor Etienne was runnin’ wild with a couple of touchdowns. Carson Beck wasn’t left jawin’ neither, throwing for a pair of scores, making sure the Bulldogs had themselves a fine day. While the Georgia fans were whooping it up, a surprise came from Tennessee, as Vanderbilt upended Alabama narrows by 40-35, bringing more smiles to those in red and black. Kirby Smart tipped his hat to Vandy and acknowledged the toughness of the SEC schedule. Auburn, on the flip side, is struggling with their hopes dashed another time under Hugh Freeze, losing to another Power Four team. The Tigers played tooth-and-nail through the hot Georgia heat, but they just didn’t have the muscle to take down those Bulldogs. With big games looming for Georgia against Texas and Ole Miss, their path isn’t a walk in the park just yet, and Auburn needs to huddle during their bye week.
Well, let me tell ya somethin’. The Georgia Bulldogs sure showed up ready to rumble after their tough tumble last week like a rooster in an Alabama sawdust ring. They squared off against Auburn with grit and gumption, topping’em with a 31 to 13 victory. Between those hedges, it was hotter than a June bug in Georgia, but that didn’t th’row Trevor Etienne or Carson Beck off a bit.
Now, the twist in this day was not just that Georgia was busy doing what they do best, but right after their victory, a little birdie from Nashville sang some sweet tunes as Vanderbilt delivered a haymaker to No. 1 Alabama, beatin’ ’em 40-35. That had Georgia folks hollerin’ all around Sanford Stadium, bless their hearts, as it gave us a boost in the league standings.
Coach Smart, usually quick as lightning, was late to jawing with the reporters, and by the time he showed, he was already full aware of Vandy’s grand win. Heck, he showed respect all around for that Vandy team, and hard as it might be to say, maybe them Commodores are startin’ to earn it in our league.
Auburn’s Tigers were fired up, but ultimately struggled to match the Bulldog’s bite. Poor Coach Freeze is stewin’ in his second year without savin’ grace yet— the Tigers struck quick but then ran out of gas. I’ll tell ya, ole Georgia might’ve been picked to win it all, but they need some sand for those upcoming hurdles with Texas and Ole Miss on the horizon.
With Auburn getting a lil’ breather next week, they’ll face off against Missouri, a team that got their feathers ruffled by Texas A&M. Meanwhile, Georgia sets its sights on Mississippi State. As clear as a bell, them Bulldogs got some improvements to make. In this SEC field, you ain’t promised nothin’, but Georgia sure is kickin’ up the dust just right.
