Recap: Alabama's Milroe Dominates LSU

11/9/2024

Alabama 42, LSU 13

TLDR: In a feisty matchup at Tiger Stadium, Alabama’s quarterback Jalen Milroe fueled a decisive 42-13 victory over LSU, propelling the Crimson Tide into strong consideration for the College Football Playoffs. Milroe, with an impressive career-high 185 rushing yards, scored four touchdowns, mesmerizing fans and stifling LSU’s defense. The rainy Louisiana night witnessed Alabama’s offense and defense in seamless harmony; as head coach Kalen DeBoer remarked, it marked the Tide’s most complete game this season. Alabama raced to a commanding lead, thanks in part to Milroe’s 72-yard sprint and additional touchdowns from Justice Hayes and Richard Young. LSU’s attempts to retaliate were thwarted by critical turnovers, including a fumble that facilitated another Alabama touchdown. The loss placed a significant dent in LSU’s postseason aspirations, marking their third defeat and second consecutive loss by over 15 points this season. LSU coach Brian Kelly expressed disappointment in not upholding the Tigers’ football standards. As LSU struggled with quarterback Garrett Nussmeier’s continued miscues, Alabama capitalized, dominating with 420 yards total. Alabama will next face Mercer, while LSU tackles Florida.

On a drizzly Saturday night at LSU’s Tiger Stadium, the atmosphere was thick with excitement as Alabama quarterback Jalen Milroe dazzled the crowd with his remarkable performance, leading the Crimson Tide to a resounding 42-13 triumph over the LSU Tigers. This victory was instrumental in keeping Alabama’s hopes alive for a spot in the College Football Playoff. Milroe achieved personal bests with 185 rushing yards and four remarkable touchdown runs, ensuring Alabama stayed in the spotlight this college football season.

Following his performance, Milroe shared his reflections, expressing his joy about playing in such a competitive environment and clinching a crucial victory. Emphasizing the cohesion on both sides of the ball, Milroe stated, “A game like tonight showed what we can do when the defense and offense are both clicking.” Indeed, from the start, Alabama displayed formidable command, leaving no chance for the 14th-ranked LSU.

The game’s highlight reel featured Milroe’s majestic 72-yard dash touchdown, delivering Alabama a substantial 29-point advantage early in the fourth. First-year head coach Kalen DeBoer praised the team’s adept handling of an intense, electric environment, noting, “I felt like this was the most complete game that we played, coming into a tough environment and just staying the course play after play.”

For LSU, however, this defeat struck hard. The Tigers, with a third loss this season and second consecutive defeat by more than 15 points, saw their playoff dreams fade. LSU’s coach, Brian Kelly, shared his disappointment, remarking, “We’re disappointed in the way we performed. I’m disappointed that we didn’t live up to the standards of LSU football.”

Milroe’s rushing excellence, achieving touchdowns at 39, 10, and 19-yard plays, surpassed his previous best efforts. He was ably supported by Alabama’s rushers, Justice Hayes and Richard Young, each adding touchdowns. While LSU attempted to counter Alabama’s thorough tactics, their inability to suppress Milroe’s prowess left them gashed and facing serious postseason uncertainties.

Moreover, LSU’s woes were compounded by quarterback Garrett Nussmeier, whose errors significantly impacted LSU’s chances. A crucial fumble set the stage for Milroe’s second touchdown, amplifying Alabama’s leading margin. Additionally, Nussmeier’s interception near Alabama’s goal in the third quarter dashed any LSU hopes of narrowing the score, adding to his troubles in LSU’s recent games.

Turning attention to the future, Alabama looks poised to maintain their momentum as they prepare to host Mercer. Meanwhile, LSU seeks redemption and tactical adjustments as they face Florida. As the season progresses, the question remains: can LSU overcome their setbacks and return to their winning ways? The upcoming games promise to reveal more about each team’s potential and playoff prospects.
