TLDR: “LSU Tigers roared past South Alabama with a 42-10 victory, led by Garrett Nussmeier who threw a personal best of 409 yards. Caden Durham was an absolute force with 217 yards from scrimmage and two stupendous touchdowns. LSU kickoff was swifter than a cat on a hot tin roof when Durham took a swing pass 71 yards for a touchdown right outta the gate. The Tigers had a 21-0 lead before anyone could blink. Nussmeier kept things rollin’ with a swift 1-yard dash to the end zone followed by a crisp 23-yard pass to Aaron Anderson. As for the defense, they hunkered down in the second half allowing solemn scores. South Alabama’s descent began with a field goal early in the second quarter but couldn’t muster a comeback. LSU dominated, firmly planting themselves back in the rankings due to Georgia’s and Ole Miss’s stumbles. Next up, the Tigers have a date scheduled with Ole Miss at home after a well-deserved pause.”
Now folks, y’all might’ve missed it, but LSU Tigers came in like a wild hurricane this Saturday, leaving South Alabama to pick up their droppings in a 42-10 thrashing. Garrett Nussmeier had the arm of a true southern gunslinger, throwin’ for his career-best 409 yards, while Caden Durham was runnin’ like he had the devil on his heels. Durham’s 217 yards on the field, paired with two touchdowns, set the stage for LSU’s offensive onslaught ticking up a season-high 667 yards.
From the first play, Durham scooted 71 yards for a quick touchdown, causin’ a stir in the crowd. He wasn’t done, not by a long shot. He then burst for an 86-yard gallop, but stopped a hair short of another score before findin’ the end zone runnin’ 8 yards. By the end of the first quarter, the Tigers held a 21-0 lead like a dog with a bone, thanks to Nussmeier’s 1-yard leap to paydirt and his follow-up 5-yard run in the second quarter. Later, he impressed with a 23-yard laser to Aaron Anderson, securing a solid 35-3 lead at the halftime whistle.
Throughout the match, LSU showcased a symphony of movement. Eleven different players found themselves snagging at least one pass, with Kyren Lacy snatchin’ five for 107 yards gallantly. Coach Brian Kelly’s words were full of pride, heralding Nussmeier and his crew for piling over 660 offensive yards like good home cookin’. Meanwhile, the LSU defense danced ‘round, making big plays. The absence of star linebacker Harold Perkins seemed like nothin’, with Greg Penn clockin’ 14 tackles.
As the dawn of next week beckons, it’ll be mighty interestin’ to see LSU’s climb in the rankings, due to the downfall of both Georgia and Ole Miss. The Tigers are lookin’ like they’ve found their stride, preparin’ to host Ole Miss after a brief breather. South Alabama, for their part, are fixin’ to head to Arkansas State next.
