Michigan Agrees with NCAA on Violations
Michigan resolves recruitment violations with NCAA, faces penalties.
The University of Michigan has reached an agreement with NCAA enforcement staff concerning recruitment violations in its football program, specifically during the COVID-19 dead period. The violations also included impermissible tryouts and noncoaching staff members participating in coaching activities. These actions demonstrated a head coach responsibility violation, which highlights the failure to monitor the program's adherence to NCAA rules. As a result, the school agreed to penalties such as three years of probation, a fine, and recruiting restrictions. Five individuals associated with the program have also accepted penalties. One former coach has opted out, and his case will be considered separately. The finalized penalties will be announced once all investigations are complete.
