Running Back Leon Franklin Enters Transfer Portal

TLDR: Michigan running back Leon Franklin has decided to enter the transfer portal in search of more playing time. This move comes as the Wolverines have managed to keep their team intact for the College Football Playoff, with only one other scholarship player and a walk-on entering the transfer portal so far. Franklin, who has been with the team since 2021, has played in 29 games for the Wolverines. Despite his departure, Michigan remains well-stocked at the running back position, with the addition of two recruits in the 2024 cycle. Franklin still has two years of eligibility remaining, and it will be interesting to see where he lands to further his football career.

Michigan running back Leon Franklin has made the decision to enter the transfer portal, citing the desire for more playing time. While the Wolverines have managed to keep their team intact for the upcoming College Football Playoff, Franklin’s departure marks the second running back to enter the transfer portal. The team’s running back lineup remains strong, with Michigan currently bringing in two more talented recruits in the 2024 cycle.

Franklin, who has been with the Wolverines since 2021, has appeared in 29 games during his time at Michigan. In the 2021 season, he carried the ball eight times for 33 yards, followed by four carries for nine yards in 2022. In 2023, Franklin recorded 11 carries for 33 yards and a touchdown, along with a receiving touchdown. Despite his contributions to the team, it seems Franklin is seeking a new opportunity where he can earn more playing time.

The Wolverines’ depth at the running back position could be a contributing factor to Franklin’s decision. With an array of talented backs on the roster, competition for playing time is fierce. However, Franklin’s departure does not spell trouble for Michigan, as the program has secured commitments from two highly-rated running back recruits in the 2024 cycle. The addition of these recruits ensures that the Wolverines will continue to excel in the running game in the coming seasons.

Leon Franklin’s decision to enter the transfer portal opens up new possibilities for his football career. With two years of eligibility remaining, Franklin will have the opportunity to showcase his skills and potentially secure a larger role at another program. While he will be missed at Michigan, the team’s depth and ongoing recruitment efforts suggest that the Wolverines are well-prepared for the future.
