Michigan Lands Jordan Young

TLDR: Michigan’s football team celebrated a notable victory over the weekend with the commitment of Jordan Young, a top 2025 safety recruit, who flipped from his initial commitment to Clemson. Young, a four-star safety from Monroe, North Carolina, found Michigan appealing due to their persistent recruitment efforts, specifically led by head coach Sherrone Moore and defensive backs coach LaMar Morgan. Michigan’s strategy, which included leveraging name, image, and likeness (NIL) opportunities, attracted Young’s attention. The Wolverines’ recruiting success follows their recent acquisition of five-star quarterback Bryce Underwood. With an already strong lineup, Michigan portrays a promising future for its secondary, losing several senior players soon. Young’s visit to Ann Arbor during a rivalry game left a lasting impression, persuading him to join the Michigan roster. Significantly, Michigan’s standings in national rankings also improved, moving them up to eighth with 20 commitments. The team retains high hopes for additional recruits such as Nathaniel Owusu-Boateng and Alex Graham. As a top defensive back prospect, Young strengthens Michigan’s recruitment class, poised to make a substantial impact.

Michigan football fans have more reason to celebrate as they added a significant piece to their 2025 recruiting class. On Sunday, four-star safety Jordan Young, originally committed to Clemson, announced his decision to join the Wolverines. Young, who hails from Monroe, North Carolina, chose Michigan following persistent efforts by head coach Sherrone Moore and defensive backs coach LaMar Morgan. Their dedication played a critical role in swaying Young’s decision.

Jordan Young initially committed to Clemson, placing the Wolverines as the underdog in his recruitment, similar to what they faced in their pursuit of quarterback Bryce Underwood. However, Michigan’s strategic use of name, image, and likeness (NIL) opportunities has significantly boosted its recruiting prowess, attracting elite talents like Young. His commitment follows Michigan’s success in recruiting Underwood, indicating potential momentum on the recruiting trail. According to the 247Sports Composite, Young is ranked No. 150 nationally, with another ranking placing him at No. 99, highlighting his high potential.

Young’s performance at Monroe high school has been impressive. He has been a standout player on both sides of the ball, making significant contributions to his team’s 12-0 record. Young racked up 38 tackles, six interceptions, and two forced fumbles while also making an impact on offense as a receiver. His versatility will be an asset to Michigan’s defensive backfield, which is on the cusp of losing several starters after this season.

During a visit to Ann Arbor for the high-stakes Michigan State game, Young experienced the vibrant atmosphere of Michigan football and the enthusiastic support of over 110,000 fans. This visit left a profound impression on him and was a decisive factor in prompting his commitment. The Wolverines ensured that Young felt at home, further solidifying their appeal.

Michigan is currently ranked number eight nationally with 20 commitments, but it isn’t content to stop there. The Wolverines are actively pursuing other top recruits, including linebacker Nathaniel Owusu-Boateng and safety Alex Graham. These pursuits reflect Michigan’s ongoing commitment to building a formidable team, and Young’s addition is another step in that direction.
