Recap: Longhorns Dominate UTSA in Home Victory

Texas 56, UTSA 7

TLDR: In a thrilling display of prowess at Darrell K. Royal – Texas Memorial Stadium, Arch Manning led the Texas Longhorns to a dominating 56-7 win over UTSA. Manning threw for four touchdowns and added a remarkable 67-yard rushing touchdown, marking an impressive performance reminiscent of Colt McCoy in 2006. The Texas offense started strong with Quinn Ewers orchestrating an 84-yard drive culminating in a touchdown pass to Isaiah Bond. Ewers contributed significantly, passing Vince Young’s all-time touchdown record, placing him sixth in Texas history. Manning entered and swiftly made an impact with a winning strike to DeAndre Moore Jr. and then a sprint through UTSA’s defense for a touchdown. In the third quarter, Manning’s dynamic passes to Isaiah Bond and Ryan Wingo extended the lead. Texas defense excelled by keeping UTSA scoreless in the second half, sealing the win with Ethan Burke’s intercepting touchdown. Their next challenge is against ULM as they aim for a four-game winning streak.

The atmosphere was electric at Darrell K. Royal – Texas Memorial Stadium, where 101,892 devoted fans saw Texas take on UTSA. The game became a showcase of Arch Manning’s talents as he led the Longhorns to an emphatic 56-7 win. Manning’s performance was truly something to see, as he threw for four touchdowns and even managed a dazzling 67-yard touchdown run, making it the most touchdowns by a freshman since Colt McCoy took on Baylor all the way back in 2006. This game sure did light up the Texas columns with some big headlining numbers.

The Longhorns set the tone early, starting with an 84-yard drive comprised of eight plays that ended with a Quinn Ewers touchdown pass to Isaiah Bond. It wasn’t long before Texas found themselves in familiar territory, with Ewers leading the team through a 69-yard march downfield culminating in another successful strike, this time to Johntay Cook II. With this touchdown, Ewers surpassed the legendary Vince Young, nestling himself firmly into sixth on Texas’ all-time touchdown list with his career 45th. It was a moment for the history books.

Arch Manning entered the field in the second quarter and wasted no time making his presence felt. He completed his first pass attempt to DeAndre Moore Jr. for a 19-yard touchdown. Then, without missing a beat, on his very next drive, Manning burst through the UTSA defense on a stunning 67-yard rush straight to the end zone. The young quarterback clearly has some wheels and instincts to match, and it didn’t stop there.

The third quarter saw Manning deliver two spectacular passes, each over 50 yards, first connecting with Isaiah Bond and then Ryan Wingo, further expanding Texas’s lead. Both scoring plays together clocked in under two minutes combined. In a defense-driven highlight, Ethan Burke secured the final scoring play by intercepting a pass from UTSA’s Eddie Lee Marburger and taking it 30 yards for a touchdown. Texas wrapped up the night with their defense not allowing any more points from UTSA in the second half. They now look forward, eager and prepared, to widen their winning streak as they face ULM next on the home turf.
