TLDR: In the thrilling Texas Football Spring Game held at Darrell K Royal-Texas Memorial Stadium, Team Orange eked out a narrow 35-34 victory over Team White. Arch Manning stood out for Team White, throwing for 355 yards and three touchdowns with sharp precision, completing 19 out of 25 passes. Meanwhile, Trey Owens steered Team Orange by completing 14 out of 21 passes for 228 yards and three touchdowns. Team Orange started strong, with Trey Owens connecting for a 50-yard touchdown following an interception return by Alfred Collins for an early lead. Arch Manning countered with a long touchdown to DeAndre Moore Jr. and added another in collaboration with Jaydon Blue, yet Team Orange maintained pressure through standout contributions including a long strike to Ryan Wingo. Despite back-and-forth scoring, Owens orchestrated a final impressive drive, sealing a win with a short completion to Wingo, while a last-second interception by Jelani McDonald thwarted Team White’s final attempt. The game wraps up the Longhorns’ spring practice sessions as they begin summer training ahead of the season opener against Colorado State on August 31.
In an exhilarating display at Darrell K Royal-Texas Memorial Stadium on Saturday, Team Orange narrowly claimed a 35-34 victory against Team White in the annual Texas Football Spring Game. Arch Manning delivered a remarkable performance for Team White, completing 19 of his 25 passes for a total of 355 yards and three touchdowns. In a comparable showing, Trey Owens led Team Orange, recording 228 passing yards and three touchdowns from 14 of 21 completions.
Team Orange quickly established dominance as Ethan Burke redirected a pass from Quinn Ewers, leading to an interception by Alfred Collins, who swiftly returned it 32 yards for the touchdown. Shortly thereafter, Trey Owens found Thatcher Milton for a 50-yard score, advancing Team Orange to a solid 14-0 lead.
Arch Manning sparked Team White’s offense with a striking 75-yard touchdown to DeAndre Moore Jr. on his first play, reducing the deficit to 14-7. Manning persisted, leveling the score at 14-14 with a connection to Jaydon Blue following an impressive run by CJ Baxter. Despite these efforts, the momentum turned back to Team Orange as Trey Owens connected a long pass to Ryan Wingo to end the first half with a 21-14 advantage.
Scoring continued to seesaw, with Bert Auburn’s field goal shrinking Team White’s gap to 21-17. Manning’s follow-up strategic moves, including completions to Isaiah Bond and Johntay Cook II, set up a Baxter rushing touchdown from one yard out to give Team White a 24-21 lead. However, Team Orange orchestrated a determined 16-play drive capped by a critical fourth-down touchdown pass from Cole Lourd to Reece Beauchamp, taking a slim 28-27 lead.
Despite Manning’s further heroics with a long touchdown to Bond resuming the lead for Team White at 34-28, Owens’ resolve saw him guide Team Orange back with a clinching short-range touchdown to Wingo. With time winding down, Manning advanced Team White to midfield, but his final pass was intercepted by Jelani McDonald, sealing the victory for Team Orange at 35-34.
The conclusion of the Orange-White Spring Game marks the end of spring practices for the Longhorns. With summer workouts ahead, the Longhorns set their sights on the 2024 season opener against Colorado State at DKR-Texas Memorial Stadium on August 31.
