WR Ja'kayden Ferguson Opens Recruiting, Eyes Texas

TLDR: Ja’kayden Ferguson, a 6’1”, 160-pound wide receiver from Fort Bend Marshall in Missouri City, Texas, has announced his decision to de-commit from the University of Kentucky. Ferguson reopened his recruitment after originally committing to the Wildcats following his official visit in June. He had unofficially visited LSU prior to making this decision. Ferguson is rated .8850 by the 247Sports Composite, placing him within the top 32 athletes nationally. He has drawn interest from several top programs including Alabama, Georgia, Oklahoma, Oregon, and LSU. His uncle, Robert Ferguson, is a former Texas A&M star who enjoyed a nine-season run in the NFL. With Ferguson’s departure, Kentucky now holds 19 commitments for its 2025 recruiting class, including Montavin Quisenberry from Boyle County, Preston Bowman from Pickerington North, and Quintin Simmons from Withrow in Cincinnati.

Ja’kayden Ferguson, a wide receiver from Missouri City, Texas, is once again exploring his recruitment opportunities after deciding to de-commit from the University of Kentucky. Ferguson, who originally committed to the Wildcats back in June after an official visit, announced this change recently following a visit to LSU. Standing at six-foot-one and weighing 160 pounds, Ferguson is considered one of the top athletes, being rated a .8850 by the 247Sports Composite.

The recruitment of Ferguson initially saw the involvement of Daikiel Shorts, Kentucky’s wide receivers coach, who played a significant role in securing his commitment. However, with his recruitment now reopened, Ferguson is attracting attention from other major programs, such as Alabama, Georgia, Oklahoma, Oregon, and LSU. This shift in direction allows him to reconsider his options, potentially aligning himself with a program that better suits his aspirations. His family’s strong football background, highlighted by his uncle Robert Ferguson who played both at Texas A&M and in the NFL, is likely influencing his decision greatly.

Currently, Kentucky remains with 19 commitments in its 2025 recruiting class despite Ferguson’s withdrawal. Among those committed are athletes such as Montavin Quisenberry from Danville, Preston Bowman from Pickerington North, and Quintin Simmons from Cincinnati. The Wildcats will be keen to maintain these commitments as they navigate the complex landscape of college football recruitment. This situation with Ferguson underlines the dynamic nature of recruiting, reflecting the competitive efforts schools must undertake to attract top-tier talent.
