Recap: Huskies Destroy Eastern Michigan

Washington 30, Eastern Michigan 9

TLDR: The Washington Huskies, guided by Will Rogers’ impressive 261 passing yards and four touchdowns, overcame a sluggish start to achieve a 30-9 victory against Eastern Michigan. Despite not scoring in the first quarter for the second time this season, Rogers electrified the second quarter with three touchdown passes, including two to standout Denzel Boston. His performance marked Washington’s powerful return to form under new coach Jedd Fisch. Defensively, Washington shined by maintaining control and contributing to a total of seven sacks throughout the game. Eastern Michigan’s Jesus Gomez notably scored three long field goals, recording a personal best. The Huskies look forward to a more challenging competition as they gear up for the Apple Cup and Big Ten play, motivating them to refine their game further.

Oh my goodness, folks! It was an exhilarating game this past Saturday where Washington managed to carve out an impressive win—30-9 against Eastern Michigan. Will Rogers, in just his second game for the team, absolutely lit up the field with 261 passing yards and four touchdowns. Although the Huskies found themselves in a bit of a rut initially, failing to score in the first quarter, thanks to their new head coach Jedd Fisch, they roared back with a vengeance. This game clearly placed them as strong contenders in the new season.

After a shaky start, as Eastern Michigan took a 3-0 lead through Jesus Gomez’s impressive 57-yard field goal, the Huskies’ offense finally awakened in the second quarter. Rogers threw three dazzling touchdowns, two of which connected beautifully with Denzel Boston. It was pure magic watching them on the field. With Washington’s defense stepping up, holding their rival at bay, the Huskies emerged victorious for their 16th consecutive home win. Jonah Coleman also showcased stellar running, rushing for 104 yards and propelling the team’s prowess.

Gomez from EMU was a standout on his own, nailing some impressive field goals, including additional 29 and 50-yarders. Despite a tough matchup, EMU displayed strong efforts but succumbed to the Huskies’ overwhelming speed and strategy. Their coach, Chris Creighton, remains hopeful and upbeat, expressing belief in his team’s potential, even after facing fierce competition from Washington.

The Huskies, while thrilled to have opened their season with consecutive victories, are aware of the increasing challenges on the horizon. Washington’s defense, notably powerful with Zach Durfee’s seven sack-leading play, kept Eastern Michigan at a safe distance. Coach Fisch’s attention to refining Washington’s approach showcases their commitment to pushing their limits with each game.

Next week is a whole other story! While Eastern Michigan will focus on playing Jacksonville State, Washington has its eyes firmly set on defending their turf against Washington State in the upcoming Apple Cup held at Lumen Field. A successful start to the season has certainly instilled confidence, but as a nod to the competitive nature of the sport we all love, the Huskies are bracing for an uptick in competition with the Big Ten debut looming.
