TLDR: The Alabama Crimson Tide, led by newly appointed head coach Kalen DeBoer, dominated Western Kentucky in their 2024 season opener, claiming a decisive 63-0 victory before a sold-out crowd at Bryant-Denny Stadium. Alabama’s dynamic offense put on a show, racking up 600 total yards, while their defense stifled the Hilltoppers, allowing a mere 145 yards. Quarterback Jalen Milroe led the charge, connecting on seven of nine passes to amass 200 passing yards, including three touchdowns, and added two rushing scores. Rookie Ryan Williams made a stunning debut with two receiving touchdowns totaling 139 yards. Justice Haynes electrified the fans with an 85-yard rushing touchdown. In the defensive department, Keon Sabb shone with two interceptions, and Deontae Lawson and Jihaad Campbell tied for the team lead in tackles. Under DeBoer’s guidance, Alabama extended its winning streak in home openers to 23 games, marking the most lopsided victory for a debuting Alabama head coach. Their next challenge awaits them the following Saturday, where they face off against USF.
Well folks, y’all ain’t gonna believe the spectacle we witnessed at Bryant-Denny Stadium as the Alabama Crimson Tide launched into the 2024 football season with a thunderous roar. With their newly minted head coach, Kalen DeBoer, Alabama rolled over Western Kentucky like a wave crashing onto shore. The Tide secured a resounding 63-0 triumph that had the stadium ringing with excitement and pride.
Now let me tell ya, that offense put on quite the show. They churned out a whopping 600 yards, movin’ the ball as if the Hilltoppers were just cones on a trainin’ field. Our quarterback, Jalen Milroe, was sharper than a tack, completing seven of nine passes for 200 yards. And wouldn’t ya know it, he was also responsible for three aerial scores and a pair of scamperin’ touchdowns himself.
Ah, the young Ryan Williams. He looked more like a seasoned pro than a freshman, didn’t he? His first two catches both ended with a score, tallying up 139 yards. Those weren’t just any catches, but pure poetry in motion. That lad has a future brighter than a Sunday afternoon bar-b-que.
And Justice Haynes, boy howdy! His 85-yard touchdown dash was the stuff of legends. It had folks in the stands and at home experiencin’ déjà vu, remindin’ us of previous greats. His run was so beautiful, I reckon I almost knocked over my sweet tea.
Defense wins championships, y’all ever heard that? Well, Keon Sabb brought the heat. He snagged two interceptions, setting the tone early. And my boy Deontae Lawson and Jihaad Campbell? Nine tackles each! They were an army of two out there, and that solitary sack by Que Robinson put a bow on a defensive masterpiece.
It was a storied night for Alabama too, making it the biggest victory margin for a first-year coach in program history. No small feat, I might add, and Coach DeBoer has himself some big shoes to fill already. But if Saturday’s game was any indication, I reckon he’s wearin’ them just fine.
Alabama’s next challenge will be against USF right here in this proud ol’ stadium. I’m lookin’ forward to another night of Tide football, full bellies, and family gathered ‘round. We’ll see y’all come that 6 p.m. kick-off on ESPN. It’s gonna be another barn burner, I garontee.
